Manchester Museum Visit

Above: the head of an ancient Egyptian king from the Middle Kingdom - this object is about 3600 years old!

Shabtis were servant figures who were put in the tomb with the deceased person to do all his chores for him in the afterlife!

The Friends of Blackley Forest were given a private tour of the Manchester Museum by Dr. Campbell Price, Curator of Egypt and Sudan.

After a look round the public galleries, we were allowed to handle some of the ancient Egyptian objects!

Above: a small hedgehog perfume holder made of a glass-like material called faience.

The Manchester Museum is currently closed until 2022.
